Yes, the go-e Charger can be integrated into the smart home. It can be done through open API protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, Modbus TCP, or OCPP. Users are able to create custom visualisations and implement smart control logic. 

The go-e Charger supports a local-first architecture. For the user, this means that all automations keep running even if the internet goes down, which is a big plus for privacy-conscious users and developers.

The most common integration of go-e products into the smart home is via Home Assistant. It lets users control the charger in complex setups. For example, in homes with multiple EVs, it dynamically optimises charging schedules and power based on priority, battery status, departure times, and overall household energy limits.

Home Assistant isn’t just the most popular option for go-e integration, but also the one with the most guides and community support. Thanks to custom components like smartenergy.goecharger or ha-goecharger-api2, you can even connect your charger directly without relying on the go-e cloud.

We asked our YouTube community how they integrate their go-e Charger into their smart home. 33% use platforms like Home Assistant, ioBroker, or openHAB, 13% use custom API scripts or MQTT, and 6% go with Alexa or Apple HomeKit. Almost half said they don’t use any smart home integration (yet).

Automate access, so the charger is unlocked only when you're at home. Integration options with the go-e Charger include MQTT for fast updates, Modbus TCP for stable connections, or OCPP for backend systems. You can monitor and control nearly all charging settings through the local API. Everything works locally, safely, and without needing a cloud connection.

In all cases, you need to activate your preferred integration in the go-e app. Simply go to “Settings”, then select “Connection” from the menu, where you can choose the desired integration option and configure details such as connecting to a local or external server.

By enabling the MQTT API in the go-e app, the charger starts broadcasting its status and accepting commands through a local MQTT broker (such as Mosquitto). This setup allows your smart home to instantly receive charging updates. You’ll see live data such as charging status, power usage, and any error messages. At the same time, you can send control commands back to the charger. These commands can start or stop charging, adjust current limits, enable PV surplus charging based on your solar power production and more.

You can integrate the go-e Charger with Home Assistant using MQTT or HTTP. This is possible thanks to our open APIs and a strong community that continuously builds tools, integrations, and automations. With MQTT, you need a broker, the MQTT integration in Home Assistant, and a custom component (via HACS or manual install). Once set up, you will be able to see and control your go-e Charger devices and sensors directly in Home Assistant. 

Unlike HTTP, MQTT is event-driven and allows ultra-fast reactive control by pushing updates only when values change. However, it requires careful topic structure and update intervals. If pGrid isn’t updated within 10 seconds, the PV mode logic may be disabled.

This method allows smart home systems or custom scripts to send commands and receive data using standard HTTP requests. It’s especially useful for users who prefer RESTful interfaces or want to integrate with platforms that don’t support MQTT. HTTP integration offers near real-time control and monitoring. Your data is kept secure within your home network.

One of the most powerful and user-friendly implementations of this local HTTP API is the Home Assistant custom integration ha-goecharger-api2. It enables direct access to nearly all available API v2 fields without relying on MQTT or the cloud. It’s especially well-suited for PV surplus charging scenarios.

With Modbus TCP, your go-e Charger communicates directly with your smart home system through local data registers. This is ideal for setups needing precise and reliable control for applications like dynamic load balancing and other automated energy management tasks without cloud dependency. Once you enable Modbus in the go-e Charger app, you can read live data (like current, voltage, and energy usage) and send commands (such as starting/stopping charging or adjusting amperage) over TCP/IP.

To integrate a go-e Charger into your smart home via OCPP, ensure that both the charger and your backend management system support the same OCPP version, ideally OCPP 1.6 JSON. The go-e Charger offers native OCPP support independent of our own cloud, so you can connect it directly to a central OCPP-compliant platform. This will allow you to control charging sessions, monitor usage, and manage settings through a unified dashboard.

The go-e Charger can be accessed in a read/write capacity from a local network using various methods, including HTTP. The LoxWiki provides templates (VO_go-e charger.xml and VI_go-e charger.xml for V1, and VO_go-e charger V2.xml and VI_go-e charger V2.xml for V2) to connect the charger with Loxone. These templates contain pre-configured commands to read and write values, as well as to parse the responses and convert values into the correct ranges.

When you are at home, the charger should be completely unlocked.

• Trigger: Smartphone is detected at home.

• Action: If the user’s smartphone is detected at home, the charger is unlocked for everyone to use. Otherwise, only authorised RFID users can access it.

Scenario 5

When you arrive home but forget to plug in your EV charger, the smart home will send you a reminder.
