Let’s say you own one of those cars or perhaps you are planning to buy one. Where do you charge it? One of the most convenient and cost-efficient solutions is a home wallbox.
Charging your car at your place is like having your own helpful assistant, just like Alexa. Getting a smart charger for your house saves time compared to using public chargers. With your own wallbox, you no longer have to stop somewhere on your way to work or be in twice the hurry if you're already running late for an important appointment. Plus, a wallbox is a future-proof investment that saves you money in the long run, because home electricity is cheaper.
You can charge any car on the list using the go-e Charger, as well as any other electric car or plug-in hybrid.

In 2024, the situation has slightly changed. The Volvo model has risen to first place, most likely due to its lower price, which makes electric cars accessible to a wider audience. In fact, on a global scale, Volvo has managed to increase its sales 10% compared to last January.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Y has fallen back to second place, but it has the whole year ahead to regain the first position. Other vehicles in the top 10 have seen shifts in their rankings, but they haven't dropped out of the list.
Why are Electric Cars Popular in Finland?
In the last few years, Finland has seen a big rise in the popularity of electric cars, and it's really taken off since 2021. Various factors have made it easier and more appealing for drivers to switch to electric vehicles.
Factors contributing to the growth of electric cars in Finland:
-
No car tax on fully electric cars: Starting in October 2021, removing the purchasing tax on fully electric cars has made buying them slightly cheaper upfront. As a result, more people can afford to join e-mobility now.
-
Low operating costs: Electric cars are known for being cheaper to maintain. And it's amazing that more and more people are realising it. This is leading to a rise in interest in electric vehicles due to their potential for long-term savings on fuel and maintenance costs.
-
Increased incentives for rechargeable company cars: The Finnish government has provided several different tax incentives for all-electric company vehicles. For instance, the tax value of fully electric company cars has been deducted by €170/month. This means that employees “save” €2040 per year by having less ‘taxable income’ compared to their colleagues with fuel driven vehicles. Companies can also offer free charging for their employees' electric vehicles at home, at work, and at public charging stations. This benefit is currently tax-free for employees until 2025. To simplify electric car charging for employees even further, the employer may cover the cost of a dedicated home charger for them. However, if the employer buys a smart charging wallbox for the employee's residence, it's considered a taxable monetary benefit.
-
Government procurement subsidies: Up to December 2022, Finland offered subsidies for low-emission vehicles including electric cars. The subsidies reduced the initial cost barrier associated with purchasing electric cars. This made electric vehicles more economically viable for both individual consumers and corporate entities. Sadly, there is currently no such funding available, but we are keeping our fingers crossed.
