Europe-wide: trend towards e-mobility continues unabated
E-mobility continues to grow in the first quarter of 2025. go-e remains the market leader in home charging in Germany
Munich (07/05/2025) - Across Europe, the number of registered e-vehicles has grown in the first quarter of 2025. The United Kingdom saw a record-breaking 42% increase compared to the previous year and sold more than 100,000 BEVs for the first time. However, the figures in Germany also rose by 37% compared to last year, and in Italy by as much as 64%, albeit from a low starting position of 4% market share.
The results of a representative survey* conducted by Norstat on behalf of go-e among the German population reflect both this trend and the growing importance of electromobility: 7.2% of Germans already use an electric car, and twice as many (14%) plan to buy one in the next three years. This would mean that by 2028, a fifth of German cars will be electric.
The trend towards energy transition and CO2-neutral charging is also continuing. 6.9% of respondents, i.e. the vast majority of e-car drivers, state that they use a wallbox to charge their e-car. The survey thus shows that home charging with an AC wallbox is currently the most important pillar in the ramp-up of electromobility in Germany, even in comparison to the necessary expansion of the public charging infrastructure. 16% of respondents have a photovoltaic system at home. A further 14% would like to install one in the next few years. The use of battery storage systems for the home is also gaining importance - 10% of respondents already store their solar-generated energy for use as required.
The increase in new BEV registrations in Germany is not entirely unexpected, as both vehicle manufacturers and companies with vehicle fleets have an interest in increasing their quota of electric vehicles due to the EU's CO² targets for 2025. This is emphasised by the fact that around two-thirds of new BEV registrations in Germany are company registrations.
This situation is favourable for the wallbox manufacturer, go-e. The independent British market research institute LCP Delta confirms that go-e is still the market leader in the home charging segment in Germany. The relative market share was also slightly increased.
