E-mobility Funding 2024 in Austria: Funding for Private and Company Wallboxes will Be Continued
Have you thought about buying an electric car this year and/or installing a charging station at home or at work?
We are delighted to tell you that there are currently two funding programmes in Austria, one for private individuals and one for companies, local authorities and associations. You can apply for these now, but only until 31 March 2025 at the latest and only as long as budget funds are available.
What will be Funded in 2024?
The Austrian government is once again subsidising brand-new electric vehicles and charging stations for electric cars. Take it as a sign to switch to e-mobility this year and install a wallbox to charge your electric car at low cost.
At the end of the article, we have listed the links with the full information on the funding programmes for you. However, if you want a comprehensive overview of all the important details, just read on.
Austrian E-mobility Funding for Charging Stations in 2024
Subsidies for charging stations will continue to be an important incentive for private individuals and companies in 2024, enabling a more affordable switch to e-mobility.
Which charging stations are subsidised?
In Austria, only charging stations that are equipped with OCPP or Modbus are eligible for funding. This is due to the fact that stationary and mobile wallboxes can be connected to a manufacturer-independent load management system and can be controlled via this system to serve the grid.
Additional requirements:
- Both private and company-subsidised charging infrastructure must be operated for at least 4 years.
- The electricity must demonstrably come from renewable energy sources.
Are the go-e Chargers Subsidised?
All our go-e Chargers are on the list of eligible products for private individuals, including the 11 kW and 22 kW versions of the go-e Charger Gemini and the go-e Charger Gemini flex. Businesses, local authorities and associations can receive a subsidy for the go-e Charger Gemini in the 11 kW and 22 kW versions.
go-e Charger Gemini flex 22 kW
The intelligent wallbox can be used both stationary in the wall bracket and mobile. No electrician is required for the installation of the charging station. Charging power from 1.4 kW to 22 kW. 1-phase or 3-phase charging.
go-e Charger Gemini flex 11 kW
The intelligent wallbox can be used both stationary in the wall bracket and mobile. No electrician is required for the installation of the charging station. Charging power from 1.4 kW to 11 kW. 1-phase or 3-phase charging.
go-e Charger Gemini 22 kW
The compact wallbox for stationary use, at home or at the workplace. Simple installation, intuitive operation and smart comfort functions. Charging power from 1.4 kW to 22 kW. 1-phase or 3-phase charging.
go-e Charger Gemini 11 kW
The compact wallbox for stationary use, at home or at the workplace. Simple installation, intuitive operation and smart comfort functions. Charging power from 1.4 kW to 11 kW. 1-phase or 3-phase charging.
Subsidies for Private Individuals
- Private individuals can receive grants of up to 600 euros for both communication-capable stationary and communication-capable smart charging cables, also known as mobile wallboxes, in detached and semi-detached houses.
- In apartment blocks, grants of up to 900 euros are available for individual systems and up to 1,800 euros for shared systems.
However, the subsidy can cover a maximum of 50% of the expenditure. In the case of stationary wallboxes, the installation costs are also included in the subsidy amount. Imagine not only saving money when charging at home, but also receiving a substantial reimbursement for the cost of the wallbox. The state subsidy towards the installation costs is the cherry on top. When installing a subsidised mobile wallbox, such as the go-e Charger Gemini flex, you save the installation costs entirely if the red CEE socket is already in place and protected by a type A RCD and circuit breaker.
Would you like to learn more about subsidies for electric vehicles and charging stations for private individuals? You can find all the details in this guide. This year, plug-in hybrids are no longer eligible for the first time. However, you will receive 3,000 euros in funding for fully electric vehicles. The complete list of eligible charging stations, i.e. both smart charging cables and mobile wallboxes as well as stationary wallboxes, can be found at umweltfoerderung.at.
Subsidies for Companies, Local Authorities and Associations
Companies, local authorities and associations cannot receive subsidies for mobile wallboxes. The stationary go-e Charger Gemini 11 and 22 kW, on the other hand, is subsidised as long as the wallbox is not publicly accessible, i.e. cannot be used by the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for a fee. If it is at least theoretically accessible to the public, you can use the RFID function to assign access rights so that only authorised persons can charge.
You can receive a subsidy of up to 500 euros for a non-public wallbox. The grant covers a maximum of 30% of eligible expenses, but is a step in the right direction to reduce the cost burden and even includes the cost of installation. You can find the complete guide to subsidising electric vehicles and charging infrastructure for businesses, local authorities and associations here. All subsidised charging stations are listed at umweltfoerderung.at.
How Can You Apply for the 2024 E-mobility Subsidy?
Here are the steps to apply for funding:
- Step 1: Register on this website if you would like to apply for funding as a private individual in order to secure your funding budget. If you are applying for funding on behalf of a company, association or local authority, register here. You will then receive a registration e-mail with further information and a personalised link to submit your application. This is valid for a maximum of 36 weeks.
- Step 2: After receiving and, if applicable, installing your wallbox, complete the funding application.
- Step 3: Attach the invoice for the purchase and, if applicable, installation of the charging station as well as proof that the energy comes from renewable sources to your application. If you live in a block of flats, you must attach proof that it is a block of flats (more than 2 residential units) (e.g. extract from the land register) in addition to the invoices (purchase and installation, if applicable).
- Step 4: Send your completed application. Please note that you must have submitted the application no later than 36 weeks after the initial registration.
- Step 5: Wait for the grant to be paid out. Payment will be made after your application documents have been checked and approved by the Climate and Energy Fund.
Funding applications can only be submitted until 31 March 2025 at the latest, provided that the budget has not been exhausted by this date.
You can apply for funding for your wallbox as part of the purchase of an electric car or you can submit a separate funding application for a wallbox. You can only apply for funding for one charging station per application. However, it is possible to submit multiple applications.
Our tip: For stationary wallboxes with a type 2 socket, the funding body can also reimburse the costs for the type 2 charging cable if it is listed on the same invoice as the charging station. It can therefore be worth buying all the charging technology together.
Summary
Buying a new electric car and a new wallbox in Austria in 2024 seems like a smart decision due to the still favourable subsidy situation. Who can say no to a discount of up to 30 or 50 %, right?
Plus, thanks to the subsidy, you can save a lot of money when installing a stationary charging station for electric cars. All you need is a communication-capable wallbox with OCPP or Modbus. Our go-e Charger fulfils the criteria and allows you to become the owner of a brand-new wallbox for a low price.
